ICy Welcome Tea

On 21 Feb, we did a community service by visiting patients at NUH. I can personally say that it is a unique and memorable experience, as I and a few other members of ICy that participated had never done this kind of thing before. The story begins…
We had planned on visiting two wards: one is the children ward and the other one is the dialysis ward (where people with faulty kidneys are treated). Because we and particularly Gary the IC for this project were very enthusiastic about the project, we even arranged a few fun sessions and songs to sing and dance along with the children. Tania and Daniel even prepared a song to play with harmonica!
Unfortunately NUH requests volunteers not to disclose personal patient information, so this section remains dry.
However I can say that we can get along with the patients. Although they seemed to be reluctant at first, we could at least make them happy for a few hours. And we never performed our entertainment plans for the children! Well, at least we didn’t embarass ourselves by weird dancing
After we said goodbye to the patients, each of us filled out an evaluation form. Here is the result:
I bet the volunteers agree with the survey result! Before this, I wouldn’t believe that talking and playing with sick strangers can be so fulfilling.
For those who never did a service like this, please do. It will be a splendid experience.
PS: thanks to Gary for coordinating and supplying us with essential information!
Happy new year!!!^^

Welcome back to NUS!! Have you got all your modules? Hahaha..
13 January 2009, Father Willem, current ICy’s spritual director celebrated mass in bahasa Indonesia with ICy-ers. In the homily, Father not only talked about forgiving others, but also forgiving ourselves. Coming back to NUS, all ICy-ers are challenged to lead a new life and look at the future ahead instead of looking back to the past and feeling guilty without a real action to a renewed life.
After the mass, the ICy-ers had an exchange Christmas present tradition. Not all who attended the mass brought a present, but the most important thing was how we could feel a family bonding as students with the same faith and nationality. We also introduced ourselves to each other because for some people, it was the first time for them attending ICy’s event.
We also celebrated ‘December-babies’ ‘s birthday. Yeah..It might seem too late. However, we still had a great fun!!^^
Thanks for Justin, CSS president, who also has come to the mass.
See you all in ICy CG and wait for the next ICy’s event!!
On Tuesday,11 November 2008, a taize prayer was held by Legion of Mary and ICy. Anyone who came could feel a very meditative situation with repetitive taize songs, moment of silence, and a short reading and reflection on that day might struck some people. The reading was taken from the Gospel of St. Matthew 6: 25-34. He reminded us not to worry and to do our best for our exam. We were also reminded to offer our study to Him.
So, how was your exam? ^^
Hope that you can join us next time with another ICy’s event!

Title: Welcome back celebration
Location: YIH
Description: Welcoming YOU! dearest ICYers back to NUS
Start with Mass (in bahasa) at 7pm. All are welcome.
Followed by tukar kado ala ICy.
Start Time: 19:00
Date: 13january 2009
End Time: 21:00
Have you experienced taize? Well, as a preparation for our exam and thanksgiving for the whole semester, Legion of Mary and ICy organized a taize prayer on Tuesday, 11 November, 7 p.m., at PGP. All Catholics in NUS are invited!!
A glance about taize
It was started by Brother Roger in 1940. Some important elements in Taize, which is a meditative prayer, are one or two songs of praise followed by psalm, reading, song, silence (yes! Silence!), intercessions or litany of praise, our Father, concluding prayer, and songs. The characteristics of the songs are short songs and the songs are repeated again and again.

Akhirnya website ICy selesai diutak-atik!
Hahaha!! Ada bulenya juga lagi!! Gangguannya ternyata tidak berhenti di situ saja. Tiba-tiba sepasang cewe dan cowo datang mendekati MC kita dan berniat pinjam microphone. Ragu-ragu sejenak, akhirnya Howard memperbolehkan acara berhenti sebentar dan sang cowo memegang mic + ngomong-ngomong nga jelas.
Hore!!
Makanan yang disajikan bener-bener enak & so Indonesia. Ada nasi uduk, tempe goreng, sambal goreng tempe, mpek-mpek, sosis, tahu isi, daging gulung, ikan goreng tepung, salad dll. Plus, ada lagi dessert yg super enak, pudding, es krim, kue, cupcake, cheesecake, dodol durian. Wah! Pokoknya kita bener2 puas deh. Makan enak sambil ngobrol-ngobrol…. nikmat!!
Setelah makan, Edo memimpin acara sharing anak-anak ICy. Sharing pertama oleh presiden kita yang pertama. Dia sempat menjelaskan tentang asak mula nama ICy. Mengapa ICy? Bukannya mestinya ICC (Indonesian Catholic Community)?
Tuesday, September 23rd 2008, a movie screening was held by ICy in YIH function room3 at 6.30 p.m. Hey, what’s wrong? Didn’t ICy have movie screening as fundraising project in the previous year?
Well, this time, movie screening was presented to YOU as an intermezzo between CG schedule, especially in ‘recess’ week (did you really have a ‘recess’? ^^ ). We watched The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Although there were some technical problems, we did have fun watching it, especially with the refreshment kept moving from one person to another. Hehehe. Before we watched the movie, we also sang “I love You, Jesus”. Guess what? We also sang it in Javanese!!
Unfortunately, it seemed too late for us to have movie discussion. In fact, this movie was chosen because we can find virtue and Christianity values in that movie. Do you remember the scene in which Lucy saw Aslan, but Peter didn’t? He asked Lucy about why he couldn’t see and he demanded a proof from Aslan that Aslan was present in the forest (as cited in http://www.decentfilms.com/sections/reviews/narnia2.html). Well, let’s discuss this movie in the forum later ^^.
Btw, thanks for Dom and Krizia from Legion of Mary who have come to our movie screening! ICy- ers, see you on next event and in our CG!!^^
Time really flies. ICy will be having its 7th birthday soon! Yes, ICy has been in NUS for 7 years since our respected seniors managed to bring this one community in Christ together. As what usually accompanies birthday there is…
ICy 7th Birthday Celebration
We will be having Potluck Dinner where each CG themselves will cook for all of you! Food donation from individual will also be welcomed =p. Alumni is much expected to come. Current generation (esp freshies) want to know you more =D (don’t worry, we won’t bully you and force you to treat us for lunch/dinner, except for one person… just kidding!). Moreover, Father Wilem (ICy Spiritual Director - proficient in Indonesian Language) will accompany us in this cheerful moment.
So, what are you waiting for, take a break from all the projects, tests and works and join us for free food and chit chat:
